I have been following this thread for the last few days and wanted to share some info. Hoping it would be useful.
I entered the country in Jan 08 using the AP while I was still working for my GC sponsoring employer. Then in June 08 I joined another employer by transferring my H1B to the new employer. I did have the option of using EAD but I wasn't sure if the renewal will come before the expiry of current EAD. So decided to transfer H1 and my new employer graciously agreed to it.
We did a premium transfer so got the approval in 2 weeks. Money does wonders (Almost like the proverbial paper weight with files). I confirm that the I94# number on I797 approval notice is same as the I94# number I got when entering the country in Jan 08.
So this should be a good news for folks who are trying to do the same. I am in a different boat right now. I have to travel to India this November. I plan to return using AP. But now my employer is different from my GC sponsoring employer. Another issue is that I am going only for two weeks while my wife will be in India till Mid Jan. So we will enter US separately using AP. Please share your thoughts if you have been in this situation.

How about trying to convert the existing "free" members to paid members? People post questions here all the time asking about personal stuff. People can be allowed to register for free but for posting we need full details In the very least we need a VALID phone number and a VALID email. For this we do not need IV teams to do anything. If, as a surfer you want to post or get access to "members only" posts, the surfer has to call the IV phone number using his primary phone number. That whoever is answering the phones can verify the phone numbers. Once the phone number is verified, the status of that member will be "active".
Now the team responsible for collections can start calling the people and asking if they have contributed and how much. We are looking to get more members and that is a wonderful approach. However we have only a THIRD of the members paying over and over again as it seems from the previous posts. It's time to start converting the free members to paid subscriptions. These other 2/3rds are using IV bandwidth and resources. It's time people started paying their dues. Doesnt have to be $100 minimum, even $10 will do, but please contribute. :)

You do NOT have to go anywhere - what you are saying is "SBI Rapid Remittance" by SBI where the money will reach your Foreign account the very next day ( But you might have to wire the money as well to BOA-NY or SBI-NY ?)

Good job in starting this thread. I got frustrated like this a few months ago for the same reasons that you & the other members have mentioned here; it definitely resonates with mine. So, recently I have decided to move to Australia by applying for a PR and plan to be there for a few years before eventually moving back home.
This is what I'm doing right now:
[1] Working on my PMP cert. [2] Will be starting a business outfit in Chennai shortly, by the end of this year.

Logiclife. I know why you are responding to these comments you all are frustrated with such comments. I know it is hard to not respond but please ignore these asinine comments. Please have some of these comments linked to the main page. But believe me "barking dogs seldom bite." Such people will ultimately sap your energy. But, just like how IV is asking people to contribute please also ask them to use their own judgment, they do this at their own risk. There are many people like us who have faith in your group although we know you cannot do miracles. I quite do not get what you are asking. You want to know if buying a call on an ETF that has had a drawdown with an expiration of less than 15 days will be profitable?
There are various option strategies and I usually trade spreads as the most basic strategy. I rarely if ever buy just calls that too with such low theta (<15 days). I usually trade 4 legged spreads like the butterfly, iron condor or at least bull/bear calls/puts.
Most of the time I am long vol (vega) with a strip strap or straddle. Sometimes I am short vega but hedge it with an exotic like a digital, or binary on the vix. I always go for optimal delta hedge and often construct synthetics. Never plain vanilla calls and puts unless I am hedging something else in a different universe with an option.
If you can explain better what your strategy is I can make comments. If possible clearly state the greeks on the strategy so I can visualize it.

What some people forget on this forum is there was a guy not too long who was dying in six months and I am sure most of our situations are not so dire. Look we all will get GC, we are AOS pending it is a matter of a year here and a year there. But please do not fight like this, we are a community. We were one group before these VBs and now we fight amongst ourselves. It amazes me how the gora man is still able to divide and rule. Chill and relax....go watch olympics.

I completely disagree with your message here. You dont even know what the personal reason for not participating in a state chapter is. I, for one, am unable to join a state chapter, because , the nearest chapter is 400 miles and 2 states away. What good would it do to me to join something that I can never be part of. I wanted to start a state chapter here in my place, but I couldnt find any useful resources on how to do it. May be eb3_nepa has some reasons like it.
Like you said, IV is not a top-down organization, which means everyone is responsible for everyone. I dont see anything wrong with eb3_nepa's questions. He wanted to know what is going on. I am sure there are lots of people around here who has the same questions.
The Admin Fixes letter campaign was a good initiative. But, the target date got moved twice, and now I dont even know when the end date is.
May be IV should be a top-down organization. Any organization as big as IV would probably be better served with a Top Team. That team could probably elected by the community. I am confident, that most of our members wouldnt even mind spending a few extra bucks to pay a honarary amount to this team for their efforts and time. Then there will be more structure and accountability and action going on around here.
I came to know about IV pretty late. When I did learn about IV and joined IV, I was a very enthusiastic participant. Of late, I do believe IV is fading away. I dont see so many activities going on around here. Like eb3_nepa and few others said, IV is right now becoming just another Immigration portal. It is starting to lose its identity.
After doing all the hard work to gather a mass or like minded people, it will be shameful, if IV drifts away from its stated aim. So, may be it is time for every member, including core members like you to refect upon things and come up with ways to make this organization more transparent and more accessible for people like me.

This membership group will have only members whose identities have been verified. Once this group is created, IV can post all the happenings accessible to them. Is this situation only in Chennai consulate or in all consulates in general? I have not heard of any trouble at other consulates. I am taking an appointment this week and will choose a consulate that may work faster (Delhi or Cal).

Like many other technology forums, you need to be a paid member to see any premium content, else only part of the message is visible...that makes every one a paid member...we can have a similar setup to see a senior member post...that way every post from a senior members will generate revenue and in turn more money for lobbying!
Eg: www.dsxchange.com, this site used to be a free site a couple of year ago; as the content grows members too soared in no time. Now, it is mandatory to pay yearly to read and ask/reply seniors members posts, else u will only read junior member posts.
We are 25k strong! Just to remind, Microsoft bought hotmail paying millions not for the lousy hotmail software, it is for the huge members that has already signed up by then.
In our case we have to make things mandatory for obvious reasons. I strongly think the word donation/contribution doesn’t work, if it could have worked we wouldn’t have this discussion after so many requests. It is time to make things mandatory, please :(.
Eg: www.dsxchange.com, this site used to be a free site a couple of year ago; as the content grows members too soared in no time. Now, it is mandatory to pay yearly to read and ask/reply seniors members posts, else u will only read junior member posts.
